Philologos
For those interested, our dear Philologos recently wrote up an article on whether or not Israel should have adopted Yiddish, instead of Hebrew, as its national language, based on the claim made by some that Yiddish was the dominant native language of world Jewry at the time of the State’s establishment. He discusses the issue honestly and fairly and ultimately concludes that the choice of Hebrew made much more sense at the end of the day (h/t Ben Ehrenkranz).
In addition, for those of you interested in a cute, heart-warming kosher cooking show, “Feed Me Bubbe,” on the air since June 2006, regularly features fun recipes for heymishe esn that you’re sure to enjoy. The website has archived all of the episodes (the first one is available here), including a “Yiddish Word of the Day” (not to be confused with the YWOTW, khas vesholem). Bubbe has even come out with a new Feed Me Bubbe Cookbook, and, as part of her interest in feeding the needy, she runs a philanthropic program in partnership with Mazon (h/t Frima Telerant).
